A Chrome Problem - How to fix Chrome Error 7?

Error 7 (net::ERR_TIMED_OUT): "The operation timed out"

This article contains solutions to cope with the Google-Chrome update error. Follow the solution steps given below:

1. Reload the page at a later time
2. Exclude Chrome from Firewall protection
3. Clean Domain Name Server (DNS) cache
4. Delete Google Chrome installation folder and reinstall
5. Repair corrupt Windows Registry entries

Reload the page at a later time

There is a possibility of an internet connection related problem. Chrome shows error 7 because of an internet connection problem from your side. Wait for a few minutes and reload the page at a later time to fix this error. If the problem still persists, contact your internet service provider to diagnose problems with the modem/ router.

Exclude Chrome from Firewall Protection

Error 7 in Chrome occurs due to conflicts with the firewall software. As a solution to this problem, add Windows Firewall to the list of firewall protection excluded programs list. This will permit Chrome to establish network connection and proceed. Here's how to do it:

· Click the Start button.
· Type Windows Firewall in the Search box. Press ENTER.
· Click Allow programs to communicate through Windows Firewall.
· If you can see Google Chrome in the list, click Change Settings and check-up its box.
· If you can't see Google Chrome in the list, click Change Settings and then click "Allow Another Program". Locate Chrome from the Open dialog.
· Select Chrome and then click Add button.

Clean Domain Name Server (DNS) Cache

Cleaning Domain Name Server (DNS) cache can resolve Chrome error 7. Follow the procedures given below to clean DNS cache:

· Click the Start button.
· Click All Programs | Accessories.
· Right click Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator.
· Enter valid username and password, if prompted.
· Now type following command in Command Prompt:
ipconfig/ flushdns
· Exit Command Prompt.
· This will clean DNS cache and resolve the issue.

Delete Google Chrome Installation Folder and Reinstall

Delete the browser's installation folder (The folder where Google Chrome is installed). Delete all files and subfolders in it. Then reinstall it using a fresh setup downloaded from the internet. This shall fix error 7. Here's how to perform this procedure:

· Click the Start button and then Run.
· Type the following path:

For Win Vista:
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome
For Win XP:
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome
· Click the OK button.
· Delete the application data.
· Open Run box again. Type the following path:
C:\Program Files\Google
· Delete the "Chrome" subfolder.
· Download a fresh setup online and reinstall the program.

Repair Corrupt Windows Registry Entries

Corrupt Windows Registry entries can lead to error 7 Chrome. You shall perform a holistic system scan through a system utilities software.

Quick Fix for Registry Problems:

· Download Registry Cleaner software
· Install the software. Run it and start full scan.
· After complete scan you will have a list of Registry errors.
